Surrender/Rehome a Dog

Surrendering/rehoming a dog is a difficult decision, and we encourage pet owners to exhaust all other resources before making this decision. Please view our Before Surrendering page on resources to consider before surrendering your dog.

Note: If you have found a stray dog, please instead see our page on Lost/Found Pet Guidance. In many circumstances, stray dogs can only be surrendered to rescue by their owner.

• If you are rehoming your dog on your own, please see our Tips for Rehoming page to help you safely rehome your dog.
• If you are in the military and need a temporary home for your animals while on deployment, please contact Dogs on Deployment.
• Unfortunately, due to a lack of available fosters, HVR is on an intake hold at this time and we are unable to accept new surrender requests. ​
